Today is the pinnacle of the sun’s journey across the sky. Traditionally it was said that this day is a celebration of the Sun’s love for his concert, the Goddess. Times have changed but what has not is our need for myth and holy-days. So today, I invite you to embrace the delicious elements of summer that light you up.
This past week I noticed the greening (check out the photo gallery below to see some of the baby plants)!! Trees are popping little green leaves. The first color of spring flowers, yellow, is in full glory with the forsythia, daffodils, comfrey and dandelion donning their golden blossoms. The fruit trees are opening with a glorious mix of pink, white and blush. Time to wake up my dears! Below are some upcoming events (one fun gathering tomorrow night if you like magic and storytelling)
There are some common health practices that ALL of us can embrace, while simultaneously embracing each other…we all learned how sad it was to go “hugless”. So my prayer for this new year is more hugs, more embracing nuanced conversations and deep listening, and a genuine devotion to individual health practices. I am sharing my current practices in hopes that they will help you.
For many years I fought the dark..from monsters in the closet to internal gremlins. My winter survival toolkit always focused on how to bring sunshine and light to the short days & long nights of winter. Until I deliciously awakened to the magic of the dark and the deep nourishment residing there.
In a month oriented towards self improvement and resolutions, let us not forget the energy of winter and the rhythms of the season. Beginning the day with a warm cup of tea, and gently shifting into a bundled walk or an indoor movement session is an ideal way to start your day and set your biorhythms. Morning movement and sunshine set you up well for the cortisol spike that naturally energizes you and keeps you from needing caffeine. Mid-day, if you hit an afternoon slump, step out for some fresh air, have an “at your desk dance party” or enjoy a smoothie (packed with essential nutrients) or a nourishing herbal infusion.
As spring begins, our natural desire for expansion is at odds with the reality of what we are experiencing. As we extend and intensify our season of hibernation how can we remain open to what spring brings? I am finding that lighting a candle, taking a few moments to feel my feet on the ground, my own heartbeat and the rhythm of my breath helps me to keep up with the demands of this new reality. I wanted to try something new this Equinox weekend (since we can’t gather in person) so I’ve recorded a meditation for you, followed by a lot of resources for Covid-19.
